About Ventriloquus

Mysterious, quixotic and always testing the boundaries of what could be, he says his insatiable drive is the beating heart of his sound: “I grew up playing classical Spanish ballads and compositions, anything from Tárrega to Albéniz.

“I was the bad student though, always wanting to do a cover of Romanza rather than play it in tempo with my guitar crew.”

And you don’t cover those songs, you play them.” But never to be idiosyncratic, he insists, rather to honor the impulse.

“I would hear a song and know immediately if I wanted to play it as written, or play it my way. Classical training was beautiful in that sense: it taught me to fly by kicking me out of the nest.”

Ventriloquus blends a combination of the gospel South with darker pop sensibilities and progressive songwriting to craft a unique, soulful sound that grabs the heart and echoes in the head. “My hope always is to be true to the sound within me,… my only job is to let it out and give it voice.”
